SUMMARY:Taking Cover: How Cover Crops Can Help Your Farm be Resilient and Effective
DESCRIPTION:How cover crops can help your farm be resilient and effective: \nAre you interested in learning more about cover crops? Are you just getting started or looking to deepen your knowledge? Join us for a field day where we will explore the past\, present\, and future of cover crops. We will discuss how climate influences cover crop growth and how these plants play a vital role in maintaining healthy and resilient farmland. \nAGENDA:\nDinner: 5PM \nVisit plot: Discover Deep Rooted Cover \nTim Lyden – Local farmer who uses biology and cover crops to build top soil on his farm \nMichael Watercutter – Conservationist Agronomist with Mercer Landmark who will discuss selecting cover crops for specific needs and give cost analysis of different mixes \nAaron Wilson – PhD Assistant Professor at OSU who is Agricultural Weather and Climate Specialist. He will discuss the changing weather patterns in Ohio and how this might affect Cover Crop Management. \nEthan Harr – JET Aerial Ag who will discuss how drones can be used for scouting and arial applications. He will conclude with demonstrating drone seeding cover crops into standing corn. \nSYLLABUS:\nThe program will start with looking at plot work growing deep rooted cover crops to aid with compaction problems. Next a presentation on the importance of biology when we use  use cover crops as a system to build soil. A local agronomist will tell his experiences using cover crop mixes and the cost effectiveness. Also covered will be a climate and weather specialist who will share insight into using cover crops as a way to combat weather events in the future. Finally\, a drone operator look into using technology to sow cover crops int current standing crops. \nIf you have more questions or need more information contact Tim Lyden at tlyden@embarqmail.com.
