Planning the Future of Your Farm: OSU Extension Offers Farm Transition Planning Series

For many farm families, the land represents more than acreage and assets—it represents heritage, livelihood, and a legacy meant to carry forward for generations. Ensuring that transition happens smoothly requires thoughtful planning, clear communication, and the right professional guidance.

To help families prepare for that future, The Ohio State University Extension is once again offering its popular “Planning for the Future of Your Farm” webinar series in March 2026. This virtual program gives farm families practical tools and guidance to create successful transition and estate plans, all from the convenience of home.

Led by members of OSU Extension’s respected Farm Office Team, this four-session Zoom series will take place on March 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. each evening.

Topics Covered Include

Participants will explore key elements of farm succession and estate planning, including:

  • Developing goals for estate and succession planning
  • Transitioning farm management to the next generation
  • Preparing for unexpected events
  • Communication and conflict management during transfer
  • Legal tools and strategies
  • Farm Asset and Resource Management Spreadsheet (FARMS) tools
  • Building your professional advisory team
  • Getting personal and business affairs in order
  • Selecting the right attorney and advisors

The program is taught by Robert Moore, attorney with OSU Extension’s Agricultural and Resource Law Program, and David Marrison, OSU Extension Field Specialist in Farm Management and a nationally recognized educator in farm succession planning.

Because the program is offered virtually, families can easily invite parents, children, or grandchildren—no matter where they live—to participate together in planning discussions that shape the farm’s future.
