Another successful school year comes to an end for the graduates of the after school Benjamin Logan Environmental Science Club.
As we say “so long” until next year we reflect on this year’s programs and we quickly see that many diverse, interesting, challenging, fun programs were experienced, activities that relied on the human senses; smell was to know how a healthy earthy soil should smell, and then the aroma of hamburger browning in a skillet that would soon become a healthful meal using clean foods, picking up trash on campus and the “not so” great smell, but then enjoying the sweet smell of “maple syrup making” and flowers from bulbs to beautiful tulips.
The senses of sight and touch were used to see microscopic tardigrades called “water bears”and touch and feel the shale deposits of Kirkmont’s cliffs. We enjoyed wagon rides along the Mad River and discovering critters in that “cold” stream to the unique “geological wonder” of Cedar Bog and all the interesting plants and animals. Not enough young students are allowed the opportunity to experience, see, feel and wonder about the many offerings of nature all around us. These adventures have brought about a greater appreciation to these students for our natural resources and how to care and manage them for future generations.
This week- 5/20/26 on a rainy wednesday the group all enjoyed hot dogs, macaroni salad and a cold drink to celebrate graduation from the BLES club. Certificates of completion were handed out and another year comes to an end, but we will be back next year.
