Summer Tour 24

August 2 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 pm

Dear Friends and Followers of the Logan County Land Trust

We are excited to announce a summer opportunity to visit the Flint Ridge State Memorial, The Wilds, and Old Man’s Cave. The trip is being offered by the Logan County Land Trust. This is our 4th annual Summer Tour.

The trip will take place on Friday, August 02. We will be leaving from the Benjamin Logan bus circle at 7:00 A. M. and returning at about 8:00 P. M. Transportation will be provided via a motor coach provided by the Lima Buckeye Bus Company.

We will travel from Benjamin Logan to the Flint Ridge State memorial near Newark. Flint Ridge is a nearly eight-mile-long vein of high-quality flint located in Licking and Muskingum counties of eastern Ohio. Hundreds of quarry pits and workshop sites are scattered across more than 2,000 acres of ridgetop in these Appalachian foothills. It has been called the “Great Indian Quarry of Ohio.”

From Flint Ridge we will travel to The Wilds near Zanesville. Spanning over 10,000 acres in southeast Ohio, The Wilds is one of the largest conservation centers in the world. Threatened and endangered species roam open pastures with endless vistas and provide an ideal setting to study ecological recovery and restoration.

Box lunches will be served while we travel from The Wilds to Hocking Hills State Park.

Our final stop will be to tour Old Man’s Cave at Hocking Hills State Park. Old Man’s Cave area can be divided into five principal sections found along the valley of Old Man’s Creek. In order, they are: Upper Falls, Upper Gorge, Middle Falls, Lower Falls and Lower Gorge. Along the length of the trail the magnificent gorge cuts through the entire 150-foot thickness of the Black Hand Sandstone. Carved by the creek, the gorge serves as an avenue for visitors to peer into the earth’s subsurface. The full distance of the gorge is approximately one half mile.

Following our tour of Old’s Man’s Cave we will return to Benjamin Logan with a dinner stop en route.

The cost for the trip is sixty-five dollars ($65) for adults and forty-five dollars ($45) for students (18 and under). This amount covers only a portion of the cost of transportation, admission and tours, as well as lunch and dinner. The balance of the expenses are funded through grants obtained by the Land Trust.

Space is limited. We can take forty people only. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We hope that as many of you as possible will take advantage of this offer to learn more about the environment and habitat diversity in Ohio.
