Healthy Living Takes Center Stage at Benjamin Logan Environmental Science Club

Members of the Benjamin Logan Environmental Science Club (BLES) rolled up their sleeves and headed to the kitchen for an evening centered around making healthy choices. The theme, “Take it to the Kitchen and Choose Health,” focused on showing students simple, practical ways to create nutritious meals and snacks—skills they can take home and use for life.

Students were divided into four interactive stations, each offering a hands-on learning experience around nutrition and food preparation.

At one station, Amy Keller, a registered dietician from Mary Rutan Hospital, taught the importance of protein in daily diets through a fun and educational Bingo game. Students learned about different sources of protein and why it’s essential for energy, muscle growth, and overall health.

Meanwhile, Lois Stoll guided students through the steps of building their own Protein Bowls. From browning ground beef to making a simple, tasty sauce and preparing 90-second rice, students learned an easy recipe they could recreate at home—perfect for surprising their families with a healthy, home-cooked meal!

Another station focused on making a healthy snack mix, combining ingredients like almonds, jerky, cranberries, and other wholesome add-ins. Students discovered that snacks can be both nutritious and fun when you pick the right ingredients.

The evening was filled with learning, laughter, and lots of delicious smells as students gained valuable knowledge about healthy eating and kitchen skills—another example of how the BLES Club is dedicated to empowering students with real-world skills that connect to a greater understanding of health and environmental stewardship.
