Enviro Camp

Exploring Nature, Science, and Stewardship Through Outdoor Adventure

Enviro Camp is a unique outdoor educational experience created through a partnership between the Logan County Land Trust and Kirkmont Center. Designed for students entering fourth grade and older, Enviro Camp combines hands-on environmental education with outdoor recreation, exploration, and unforgettable summer experiences.

Held each summer at the beautiful Kirkmont Center near Zanesfield, Ohio, Enviro Camp encourages curiosity, discovery, teamwork, and stewardship by connecting young people directly to the natural world around them.

From studying wildlife and watersheds to hiking woodland trails and learning outdoor skills, campers experience a week filled with science, adventure, conservation, and fun.

Hands-On Environmental Learning

Each day at Enviro Camp begins with environmentally themed educational activities led by educators, conservationists, scientists, and community volunteers. Campers explore real-world environmental topics through interactive experiences that encourage observation, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for nature.

Educational topics and activities may include:

  • Orienteering and compass navigation
  • Geology and Ohio landforms
  • Birding and wildlife observation
  • Botany and native plants
  • Watershed and stream studies
  • Fly tying and fly casting
  • Conservation and stewardship practices
  • Ohio Native American history and culture
  • Ecology and habitat exploration

Campers are encouraged to engage directly with the outdoors while developing a stronger understanding of how natural systems work together.

Outdoor Adventure and Camp Experiences

In addition to environmental education, Enviro Camp provides the classic fun and adventure of summer camp. Afternoons are filled with outdoor recreation and activities that allow campers to build friendships, confidence, and lasting memories.

Camp activities may include:

  • Swimming
  • Canoeing
  • Archery
  • Fishing
  • Hiking
  • Scavenger hunts
  • Camp cookouts
  • Nature exploration

The combination of education and recreation creates an experience that is both meaningful and memorable for participants.

A Partnership Built Around Stewardship

Enviro Camp reflects the shared mission of the Logan County Land Trust and Kirkmont Center: connecting people to the land while inspiring environmental stewardship and community involvement.

Kirkmont Center’s forests, trails, streams, and natural spaces provide the perfect setting for outdoor learning and exploration. Together, the organizations continue working to create opportunities for young people to experience the outdoors in ways that foster curiosity, responsibility, and appreciation for the environment.

Inspiring Future Conservation Leaders

One of the goals of Enviro Camp is to help young people better understand the importance of protecting natural resources and caring for the environment. Many campers leave with:

  • Greater confidence outdoors
  • Increased environmental awareness
  • Stronger problem-solving skills
  • A deeper appreciation for conservation
  • New friendships and teamwork experiences
  • Lasting memories connected to nature

For many students, Enviro Camp serves as an introduction to lifelong stewardship and environmental learning.
