5th Annual Summer Tour

August 1 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 pm

Dear Friends and Followers of the Logan County Land Trust

We are excited to announce a summer opportunity to visit the Rock Mill, Brandt Farm, The Ohio Glass Museum, and The Hopewell Culture National Historical Park. The trip is being offered by the Logan County Land Trust. This is our 5th annual Summer Tour.

The trip will take place on Friday, August 01. We will be leaving from the Benjamin Logan bus circle at 7:00 A. M. and returning at about 8:00 P. M. Transportation will be provided via a motor coach provided by the Lima Buckeye Bus Company.

We will travel from the Benjamin Logan campus to Rock Mill. A mill has stood on this site since 1799. The present structure, which operated as a grist and flour mill, dates to 1824. https://fairfieldcountyparks.org/historical-features/rock-mill/

From the mill we will travel to the Brandt Farm in Carroll. The Brandt family is carrying on the work of the late Dave Brandt in the field of regenerative agriculture. Their company, Walnut Creek Seeds, offers 50 single species cover crop seeds as well as blends. https://www.walnutcreekseeds.com/

Box lunches will be served at the farm.

Soil types have much influence over how land is used. The sand found in Lancaster led to the growth of a glass industry. The Ohio Museum of Glass celebrates that heritage. While there, we will view the museum’s collection and view a glass blowing demonstration. https://www.ohioglassmuseum.org/

Our final stop will be at the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park. Nearly 2000 years ago, Native Americans built dozens of monumental mounds and earthen enclosures in southern Ohio. These earthwork complexes were ceremonial landscapes used for feasts, funerals, rituals, and rites of passage associated with a Native American religious movement that swept over half the continent for almost 400 years. https://www.nps.gov/hocu/index.htm

Following our stop at the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park,  we will return to Benjamin Logan with a dinner stop en route.

The cost for the trip is seventy dollars ($70) for adults and fifty dollars ($50) for students (18 and under). This amount covers only a portion of the cost of transportation, admission and tours, as well as lunch and dinner. The balance of the expenses are funded through grants obtained by the Land Trust.

Space is limited. We can take forty people only. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We hope that as many of you as possible will take advantage of this offer to learn more about the environment and habitat diversity in Ohio.
